Antique Red & Gold Fujian Carved Cabinet – Original Colour

An antique 2-tier carved cabinet from Fujian province with beautiful original deep red colour and stunning carvings. This cabinet is approx. 100-120 years old, and is made of Elm and Pine woods, with the carved panels made of Camphor. We had retained the original colour and finished it with a clear matte lacquer.

The top section of the doors have fine through-carvings of human characters on horseback. Below that are relief carvings of the same theme, with two pairs of phoenixes above the arches. The brass handles on the doors are also original – which is getting increasingly rare. Inside the top section is a very interesting detail: the plank towards the front can be lifted up, revealing a “secret “compartment underneath.

The relief carvings of Buddhist swastikas on the drawers are dotted with flower carvings in gold, and surrounded by carvings of cherry blossoms and magpies.

Right below, the doors have carvings of vases & incense holders on curio stands, and on the drawers are carvings of birds and flowers.
